Meet our Founders

Podcasters
Brittany Hinkle & Briayanna Johnson
Brittany received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Georgia. Brittany continued her education at the University of Georgia, receiving her Master of Education in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Community Counseling. Brittany is currently a fourth year doctoral student, and her research interests include African American families and couples as it relates to functioning and parenting. Brittany enjoys spending time with family and friends, doing yoga, eating at new restaurants, skating, and giving back to others.
Briayanna graduated from Temple University with her Bachelors degrees in both Psychology and Africology & African American Studies. Briayanna is currently in her second year. Her research interests include Black family socialization as it relates to self efficacy, Black financial success and intergenerational trauma. Briayanna enjoys traveling, trying new foods and going to live music shows.
Brittany and Briayanna, affectionately known as B&B, have worked together to provide content for two years. Combining their differing experiences and fun personalities, they provide unique perspectives with authenticity. They are under the leadership of Dr. Shareefah Al’Uqdah, who serves as their academic advisor and oversees the podcast.

Meet our Advisor
Shareefah Al'Uqdah, Phd

Dr. Al'Uqdah is an Associate Professor in the Counseling Psychology program at Howard University. She has a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families through mental health initiatives. At North Carolina Central University, her alma mater, she found her passion for psychology, earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Following NCCU, she attended and graduated from Howard University with a Ph.D. in Counseling psychology. Dr. Shareefah not only educates future psychologists, but she also conducts national and international workshops for educators, professionals, and community members on wellness. Her published research examines issues that impact urban families, urban schools, and African American Muslims.
She has received over two million dollars in grant funding to help decrease mental health disparities within underserved communities. Two of these grants helped fund PsychD Podcast. Outside of the academy, Dr. Shareefah serves as the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Your Neighborhood Clinic, a not-for-profit organization that provides low cost and insurance-based mental health services. As a loving wife and mother to four wonderful sons, Dr. Shareefah affectionately coined Your Neighborhood Psychologist on social media to highlight her commitment to healing every hood everywhere through mental health awareness.
